Nigeria troops and suspected terrorist spy in Yobe
A 23-year-old man accused of espionage for terrorist organizations in Yobe State has been taken into custody by 159 Battalion soldiers working under Operation Hadin Kai.
Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) gave information that led to the suspect's capture in Kanama, Yunusari Local Government Area.
"The suspect was arrested at about 3:15 pm on March 30 following intelligence provided by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force," a source informed Zagazola Makama.
After getting the tip, troops reportedly went swiftly into the area and apprehended the culprit, Isah Mahammadu, a resident of Kafetowa village in Yunusari Local Government.
The suspect insisted he was in the area for Sallah celebrations and denied any connections to ISWAP or Boko Haram during the first interrogation.
"Preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect denied involvement with terrorist groups, claiming he was in Kanama to celebrate the Sallah festivities," the source stated.
Among the things found on him were N3,500, four wrist bangles, a torchlight phone, and a tiny purse with a mirror.
"The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody and will be transferred to the Military High Command for further investigation and action," the source continued.
