Nigeria troops eliminate notorious terrorists Abu Fatima in Borno
Amir Abu Fatima, a well-known terrorist commander, was killed during a special military operation in the Kukawa axis in northern Borno, according to the Nigerian Army.
The Nigerian Army confirmed this in a statement yesterday that was issued on its official X (formerly Twitter) feed.
Targeting rebel hideouts in the Lake Chad region, the operation was carried out in the early hours of the morning by Special Forces of 19 Brigade under Sector 3 of Operation Hadin Kai.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was also informed by a credible military source that the operation was a “precision decapitation strike” intended to eliminate Abu Fatima, who had been on the security services' most-wanted list because of his involvement in several high-profile attacks in the Lake Chad Basin.
The elite troops entered the terrorists' stronghold and engaged the fighters in a heavy firefight, according to the military source.
“Abu Fatima was critically wounded and captured alive but later died from excessive bleeding due to gunshot wounds,” the source added.
