Eight terrorists were killed Wednesday in an encounter along Kurfi-Batsari Road by troops of 17 Brigade, who were part of Operation Fasan Yamma at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kurfi in Katsina State.  

Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja.  After a protracted battle, Kangye claimed the military quickly engaged the terrorists and foiled their goals.

He said that 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, and six AK-47 magazines were recovered, indicating that the terrorists had suffered severe casualties. 

 He stated that a soldier was transported to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment after suffering injuries during combat.

“The situation remains calm while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high.

“The Defence Headquarters commends the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation.

“We reassure Nigerians of our continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” he said.
