Nigeria troops kill terrorists, recover weapons in Borno
During operations in Borno State, members of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have killed terrorists and captured guns and other military hardware.
Attacks on two Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) at Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area and Mairari in Guzamala Local Government Area were also prevented as a result of the operations.
With assistance from Multinational Joint Task Force Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance assets, troops on September 17 discovered terrorists moving toward FOB Gajiram, according to Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), on X on Friday.
He claimed that while the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided close air support, the infantry quickly adopted defensive measures.
“Faced with the coordinated response, the terrorists withdrew from the vicinity of the location into adjoining areas,” Goni said.
Later that evening, FOB Mairari was attacked by terrorists who the military identified as members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Troops reportedly put up a fierce fight against the assailants, with the Air Component providing close air support.
According to Goni, the terrorists were killed and the incident was successfully contained.
“Subsequent exploitation led to the recovery of four terrorists’ corpses, some AK-47 rifles, magazines, quantities of ammunition, RPG bombs and a camcorder, among other items,” he said.
After being quickly stabilised, a few soldiers who had been hurt during the battle were airlifted to a hospital to receive treatment.
