Nigeria troops nab suspected foreign terrorist in Borno
During a security operation in Lassa, Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State, troops of Sector 4 Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) captured an alleged illegal immigrant and another foreign terrorist fighter while conducting vigorous counterterrorism operations throughout the North East Theatre.
"The operation was carried out by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m. on 19 July 2026 as part of ongoing intelligence-driven operations in the North East Theatre," said a statement released on Monday by Capt. Mohammad Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai.
“During the operation, troops arrested one Musa Fashir, 32 years old Sudanese national suspected to be a foreign terrorist fighter and collaborator,” the statement reads in part.
He further highlights attempts by foreign entities to promote rebel activity in the region by stating that preliminary intelligence shows the suspect has formed connections with terrorist elements.
He said, “Troops also apprehended Mary Florence, 36 years old, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from the Republic of Ghana. The circumstances surrounding her presence in the area, as well as the authenticity of her claims, are currently under investigation.”
The command added that during the inquiry, a video purportedly depicting the murder of unidentified individuals was found on one of the suspects' cell phones.
The accused allegedly acknowledged belonging to the Aiye Confraternity and were connected to other violent occurrences in the area, according to the police.
