Nigerian Army kicks off construction of new training depot in Ebonyi

In accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive, the Nigerian Army (NA) has started building a second training depot at Amasiri-Edda in the Afikpo and Edda Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State.

The goal of this project is to strengthen the national security architecture and increase training capacity nationwide. Dr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, conducted the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, according to Col.

Appolonia Anele, Director of Army Public Relations. During his speech, the Governor conveyed his sincere gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lieutenant General W Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for their approval of the training depot's installation in Ebonyi State.

The facility, according to the governor, would improve recruitment chances and encourage more young people from Ebonyi State and the South-East area to join the Nigerian Army and serve their country.

He also emphasized the institution's significant contributions to the state's socioeconomic progress, security, and peace.

Major General Oluremi Fadairo, the COAS's General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Joint Task Force South-East, Operation Udoka, praised the host communities for their support.

"The President's vision to ensure equitable distribution of military infrastructure and inclusive national representation within the Armed Forces is in line with the establishment of the additional training depot," he said.

He underlined that the depot will give young people in the South-East more chances to join the Nigerian Army and proudly serve their country.

Major General Fadairo emphasized that equal chances are open to all states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, and he urged the people of the South-East area to take advantage of the opportunity by actively filling their recruiting quota in the Nigerian Army.
