Nigerian troops eliminate terrorists, nab 13, rescue 15 kidnapped victims in nationwide crackdown

In a series of well-coordinated operations throughout the nation, Nigerian Army troops have killed numerous terrorists and detained thirteen more.

During onslaughts from August 29 to August 31, troops also freed 15 kidnap victims, a military source told The Nation late Monday night.

The source claims that forces found a sizable cache of explosives, ammunition, high-grade weapons, and petroleum products that had been illegally refined.

Details of the victories were provided by the source, who said that forces from 1 Brigade Combat Team in Zamfara State and 17 Brigade in Katsina State had rescued 12 kidnap victims from terrorist captivity in the Northwest zone.

Moreover, during a crackdown on terrorist hideouts, 34 Artillery Brigade troops in Imo State and Operation Whirl Stroke troops in Nasarawa State successfully rescued three kidnap victims. Troops also carried out successful rescue operations in the Northcentral and Southeast areas.

By raiding criminal hideouts in Kebbi and Sokoto States, a combined team consisting of 1 Battalion Rear of the Nigerian Army, other security forces, and local vigilantes stepped up their crackdowns on suspected collaborators and logistics suppliers of criminal groups in the Northwest.

They arrested six suspected members of the infamous Lakurawa terrorist group and confiscated their cash and logistics supplies, the source said.
