Nigerian troops rescue eight kidnapped wedding guests in Kano

Eight of the ten people kidnapped by suspected terrorists at a wedding location in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State, on Wednesday have been freed by troops from the Nigerian Army's 3 Brigade.

An unspecified number of gunmen allegedly wearing military camouflage broke into the event and took the victims away, a reliable source from Army Headquarters informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

After receiving the distress signal, he added, troops stationed in an ambush position along the Yankwada River line quickly moved to the general area and made contact with the escaping attackers at Garu Village in neighboring Katsina State.

Before contact was broken, he said, the bandits were pursued by troops all the way to the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis.

”During the operation, eight of the abducted girls were successfully rescued and have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track and rescue the remaining two victims.”

According to the authorities, efforts to guarantee the safe return of the remaining victims and stop additional attacks have continued in the general vicinity.
