Nigerian troops rescue kidnapped soldier, civilian in Zamfara

During a combat patrol in Zamfara State, soldiers from Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma (JTF NW OPFY), successfully rescued two abducted individuals: a soldier and a civilian.

The rescue operation took place early on July 29, 2026, while troops stationed in Gwashi were on a battle patrol near a terrorist enclave.

This was said in a statement provided to reporters in Gusau, the state capital, by Lt. Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North-west OPFY.

The statement claims that during the patrol, troops saved Lauwali Dan Ada, a civilian from Kasahola Village in the State's Bukkuyum Local Government Area, and Lance Corporal Basiru Labbo, who had been kidnapped on July 22, 2026, along Zuru–Anka Road.

“The rescued persons have been evacuated to troops’ location, where they underwent debriefing, medical evaluation, and other necessary administrative procedures”, he added.

“Operation Fansan Yamma remains committed to sustained offensive operations and rescue efforts aimed at protecting lives and restoring security across the North West.”
