Two days prior, private depot owners raised the ex-depot price of gasoline in significant areas. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) national publicity relations officer (PRO), Joseph Obele, said that prices could increase even more in the days ahead.
He explained the pattern by citing allegations that the Dangote refinery was closing for a scheduled "turnaround maintenance."
A refinery source, however, denied reports of a stoppage, stating that the unit was still producing.
The Dangote refinery lowered its ex-gantry petrol price to N699 per litre on December 12, 2025, from N828. This is the lowest price in around two years.
