NRC boosts trips on Abuja-Kaduna train route

On its Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) route, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has expanded the number of departures. This was a reaction to the corridor's increasing passenger demand.

More travel options, improved operational flexibility, and improved service delivery on the route are the goals of a revised schedule announcing the hike, which goes into effect on Friday, March 6.

Following the bombing on March 28, 2022, and the derailment on August 26, 2025, the corridor experienced operational disruptions. As a result, rolling stock was reduced from three to one, "Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR)" were implemented for safety, and the number of daily trips was altered.

In a statement released by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the company said that in addition to the earlier easing of some temporary speed limits, it has expanded services to meet commuter expectations in response to passenger demand and the restoration of stability.

Passengers from Idu and Rigasa will now enjoy three journeys on Fridays and Sundays, as well as on Saturdays and Mondays, while two trips will continue to operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the updated schedule.

“Specifically, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Idu-Rigasa service departs Idu at 8:45 a.m and returns from Rigasa at 2:30 p.m.

“On Fridays and Sundays, three trips operate with departures from Idu at 7:45 a.m. and 3:15 pm, and from Rigasa at 11:30 a.m. On Saturdays and Mondays, services depart Rigasa at 7:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and from Idu at 11:00 a.m. with all trains making scheduled stops at Kubwa.”

The NRC reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing capacity, dependability, safety, and the general passenger experience throughout its network and advised travelers to be aware of the updated schedule and adjust their travel plans appropriately.
