NSCDC nabs man for vandalizing Jigawa bridge
Basiru Yushe'u, 38, has been taken into custody by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State for reportedly damaging the iron wire of a bridge in Bakin Gada, Auyo Local Government Area.
In Dutse, the state capital, on Wednesday, Badruddeen Tijjani, the Public Relations Officer for NSCDC Jigawa State Command, provided reporters with a statement.
"The arrest was made on Friday, July 18, 2025, after NSCDC operatives received a distress call," the statement read.
Officers from the NSCDC responded quickly when the culprit was caught trying to sell the vandalized iron material, the statement reports.
“This shows the effectiveness of the Corps’ surveillance and response mechanism,” the statement partly read.
According to Tijani, the suspect admitted to the crime over the course of the inquiry. He claimed to have been fishing when he noticed the cable, cut it off with a metal hand saw, buried it in a secret location, and then brought it to the scrap market.
“The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” he noted.
According to the NSCDC Command, this act poses a major risk to infrastructure development and public safety.
Nonetheless, the command has strongly warned anyone or any organization involved in vandalism to stop or else the entire force of the law will be applied.
