Ogun govt suspends two principals over 'student's' death

The principals of Ilugun High School, Elega, Mrs. Olukoga Adeyemi Alaba (Junior Secondary School) and Mrs. Ladipo Olabisi Temitope (Senior Secondary School) have been placed on indefinite leave by the Ogun State Government due to the death of a suspected student.

In response to a widely shared video on Tuesday showing students damaging school property, State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu said the suspension was required because of the principals' actions in the incident.

According to Arigbabu, the junior school's principal was found to have participated in the unlawful collecting of fees, which prompted the kids to demonstrate.  Security personnel were asked to defuse tensions during the eschewing protest, which ultimately resulted in a fight.

According to information obtained, the administration of Ilugun High School's junior and senior branches required N7,500 from the students before allowing them to view their JSS and SSS exam results.

After the impacted pupils reportedly objected to the unlawful accusations, the school apparently called in the "Amotekun" Corps to put an end to the riot.  However, Amotekun Corps agents apparently chased some of the students up to a river while enforcing the school's rules.

Three of them reportedly climbed over the school's outer fence and fell into the canal, where one of them drowned.
