Ondo Amotekun nabs seven suspected criminals, recovers items

Over the weekend, the Ondo state security group, dubbed Amotekun, reported that its members had found more than N300 million worth of stolen goods.

In Akure, the state capital, its commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, announced that the security agency had also detained seven people in relation to a number of crimes in the state.

The arrests and recoveries, according to Adeleye, were a part of continuous initiatives to lower crime in the state.

He claims that the recovered goods—mostly phones and devices—were taken from Lagos and shipped to Ondo State via the Ojota Motor Park.  Suspects connected to an electronics theft syndicate were among those detained, the commandant noted.

He said that “one of the suspects boarded the same bus conveying the goods and repackaged the items into an empty carton during the journey.

” The act was discovered during a stop for fuel, prompting further investigation and the eventual recovery of the stolen goods.

According to Adeleye, the items belonged to an authorized electronics reseller in Ondo State and would be given back to the owner once the court had processed the required paperwork.  The suspects in a recent case of kidnapping were similarly paraded.
