Oyo begins 50th anniversary celebration
Today will mark the start of events commemorating Oyo State's 50th anniversary. The 50 Anniversary Committee Chairman, Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, has announced that the opening ceremony will take place at the International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Oyo State Governor "Seyi Makinde" is scheduled to give a welcoming speech at the event, which will also include a poetry session, a drum performance, a showing of a state documentary, and messages of goodwill. On February 3, 1976, General Murtala Muhammad's administration established Oyo State.
On Tuesday, the anniversary celebration will continue with ceremonies held in each of the state's 33 local government districts, along with an outdoor movie screening and a medical outreach program.
According to the committee, the film show, which will be led by Kunle Afolayan, will be held at the Cultural Center in Mokola, Ibadan; Oyo Town Hall in Oyo; Ogbomoso Township Stadium in Ogbomoso; Eruwa Grammar School in Eruwa; Saki Town Hall and Iseyin District Grammar School in Iseyin. The medical outreach will be conducted throughout the state.
On Wednesday, January 28, people will participate in a Carnival/Local Government Parade from the ancient Mapo Hall to the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan, wearing "Oyo at 50" ankara materials, according to the notice of activities.
The governor is anticipated to speak at the carnival procession during the stadium's march past.
Additional events include a fashion runway/miming, an exhibition of arts and artifacts at the same location, and the Oyo at 50 dymposium on Thursday at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, with Prof. Olu Ajakaiye as the main speaker.
