Oyo state declares Tuesday work free to celebrate Islamic new year

In honor of the new Islamic calendar year, Hijrah 1448AH, the Oyo State administration has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, to be a work-free day.

The state government acknowledges the significance of the Hijrah in the lives of our Muslim brothers and sisters, according to a press release issued by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information.

“The Hijrah marks the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622AD, and is considered a significant event in Islamic history.

“As a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, we have declared tomorrow, Tuesday, 16th June, 2026, a work-free day in the state,” Oyelade said.
