Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde declares 16-hour curfew in 10 LGAs

The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has authorized the implementation of a 16-hour curfew in ten local government areas as part of efforts to combat insecurity in the state.

A memo from Prof. Musibau Babatunde, the Secretary to the State Government, states that the curfew would begin on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

The curfew initially affects local government areas that adjoin Old Oyo National Park and lasts for 48 hours, from 4 PM to 8 AM.

The abduction of children and teachers in the Orire Local Government Area in May sparked a series of rallies that shook the state.

Speaking at the most recent protest on Monday, Juwon Sanyaolu, the movement's national coordinator, stated that the demonstration was a part of the group's continuous efforts to demand the victims' freedom.
