Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is supported by the coalition. 

On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Obi declared his defection in Enugu. In order to improve and save Nigeria, the former governor of Anambra State stated that he is defecting ahead of the 2027 election.

"We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi declared.

“We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027,” he added.
