Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna's sister, Ruth Otabor, died in a heartbreaking collision involving a Dangote Group vehicle close to Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.  

Ruth passed away on Sunday at around 6:30 a.m., according to a statement sent by her family via Eko Solicitors & Advocates.

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.

Six days after Ruth's graduation from the polytechnic, on August 13, 2025, the incident took place, leading to the amputation of her leg.  

Witnesses said that the large truck smashed her leg before a bystander finally pulled it over.  In addition to accusing the corporation of incompetence, Phyna had been demanding justice for her sister and vowed not to allow the issue to be ignored.  

Dangote Group promised Ruth's family full medical treatment and fair compensation after taking responsibility for the tragedy.  

However, Phyna was incensed when employees of the company uploaded pictures of her sister's injuries to the internet without her consent.  Fans and other celebrities have expressed their grief and demanded justice in response to Ruth's passing.
