Following an incident in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of three vigilantes, the Plateau State Government has guaranteed drivers and other road users of safe passage along the Jos-Barkin Ladi highway.

Along with denouncing the incident, the administration urged citizens to remain calm and refrain from obstructing the route while security forces step up their efforts to find and capture the perpetrators.

The guarantee came after women and young people in Kassa staged protests and barricaded the main thoroughfare after gunmen allegedly assaulted the neighbourhood at around one in the morning on Friday, killing three vigilantes, including the youth leader.

As demonstrators voiced their outrage over the frequent attacks in the neighbourhood and called for increased security, the road blockade reportedly caused traffic jams and left some commuters delayed for hours.

The state administration called the attack "deeply regrettable and unacceptable" in a statement written by Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, Commissioner for Information and Communication.

The administration expressed sympathy to the victims' families and reassured the locals that security forces were working to capture the offenders and stop such atrocities.

Additionally, it warned that obstructing the route could put travellers in even greater danger and urged the impacted families and towns to keep the peace.
