Police arrest five suspects over alleged car theft
Five individuals have been detained by Lagos State Police Command operations for allegedly stealing a car in the state's Lekki neighborhood at gunpoint.
In a statement released Thursday in Lagos, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the arrest. According to him, the suspects, who range in age from 25 to 35, were captured by detectives from the Ilasan Division.
“On Aug. 1, a taxi driver reported that the suspects, who had ordered his services along Platinum Way, Jakande, Lekki, boarded his black Toyota Corolla.
“During the trip, one of them pointed a locally made pistol at him and forced him out of the vehicle, after which the gang fled with his car.
“Following investigations and intelligence-led operations, detectives later apprehended the suspects,” he said.
According to Hundeyin, more research showed that a 40-year-old guy purchased the car for N500,000, disassembled it, and sold the individual pieces.
The buyer was ultimately caught in Ibadan, he continued. The spokesperson stated that every suspect is being prosecuted, the pistol used in the heist is being recovered, and other automobiles sold by the group are being tracked down.
The state commissioner of police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, gave residents and guests the assurance that the command will continue to put their safety and security first, the police image maker continued.
He went on to say that Jimoh encouraged the public to always give the police helpful information so that they can respond quickly.
