Police arrest four over N500m scam in Lagos
Four suspects have been detained by Lagos State Police Command officers after they discovered a multi-million naira visa scam that scammed more than 100 people out of over N500 million.
The suspects, who were identified as Maurine Peter, 25, Blessing Wefsutu, 27, Chineye Christian, 36, and Archibong Udeme Ifereke, 23, worked for an educational consulting company in the Ago Okota neighborhood of Lagos.
Before being moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba for a more thorough investigation, the case was first reported at the Ago Okota Police Division.
According to preliminary investigations, the consulting firm allegedly received substantial sums of money from unwary victims while posing as a company that facilitated work visas for Canadians and Australians. Suspicions and police involvement resulted from the accused' alleged failure to fulfill promises of assured work chances abroad.
In an X platform statement on Wednesday, the command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and said that the scam had over 100 victims and a total value of almost ?500 million.
“Further investigations indicate that the syndicate includes additional accomplices who are currently at large.
“The command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” the statement read.
