Police arrest man for stealing neighbour's car in Lagos

Operatives of the Ebute Ero Police Division in Lagos State have apprehended one Jackson Abraham, a male suspect, in possession of a stolen vehicle during a regular surveillance patrol.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Hundeyin, exclusively informed PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that the suspect was intercepted while driving a Mitsubishi Space car, ash in colour, which was reported stolen from a parking lot in Ogun State.

Abraham seized the car without the owner's permission, according to early investigations, he said, adding that the suspect and the legitimate owner live at the same home.

In a text message to our correspondent, Hundeyin emphasised that the car had been found undamaged and brought to the police station.

He also mentioned that the legitimate owner, who had previously reported the car missing to the Ogun State Police Command, had been contacted and was fully assisting with the investigation.

The suspect is still being held while plans are being made to move him and the recovered car to Ogun State, where the matter was first reported, he added.

Additionally, he communicated the dedication of CP Olohundare Jimoh, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, to preventing auto theft and improving public safety.  He claimed that the CP stressed the importance of community collaboration in the battle against crime and advised locals to remain watchful and report any suspicious activity right away.
