Police arrest native doctor in possession of firearms in Enugu
A local physician was detained by Police Special Anti-Cultism Squad agents for reportedly having guns and ammo concealed in his shrine.
The Enugu State Police Command said in a statement released on Monday that during a raid on the suspect's shrine at Ugwuochie-Iwollo in the Ezeagu Local Government Area, officers found a revolver, a locally made pistol, one expended.38-calibre shell, a live.38-calibre round, and a live cartridge.
“The recovery followed the suspect’s confessional statement after his earlier arrest, as well as a subsequent raid on the shrine by our operatives,” the statement read.
According to authorities, the guy also admitted to belonging to the Black Axe fraternity. The statement further stated that after the inquiry is over, the suspect would be arraigned in court.
Mamman Giwa, the commissioner of police, praised the team for their work and asked cops to keep up the good work, promising to make sure that "Enugu State remains uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals."
Additionally, he urged the people to keep backing the command's efforts to combat crime.
