Police arrest teenager for vandalising installations on Third Mainland Bridge

An 18-year-old suspect has been taken into custody by members of the Lagos State Police Command's Rapid Response Squad for allegedly damaging reflective road safety systems on the Third Mainland Bridge.

Around 17:30 on April 6, 2026, the culprit was apprehended after it was alleged that he had tampered with road studs that were put in place to enhance visibility and direct drivers, particularly at night and in bad weather.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Police Public Relations Officer, made this announcement on Wednesday.

The command claims that Dogara John, the suspect, was caught while purportedly taking off the reflective studs. Twenty of the objects in his possession were found during a search at the scene.

The installations, according to the police, are essential to road safety since they facilitate safe driving and lower the likelihood of collisions on the crowded Third Mainland Bridge.

“These road studs play a vital role in helping drivers stay on course and in preventing accidents, particularly on a busy route like the Third Mainland Bridge,” the statement said.

The command reiterated its position on protecting public infrastructure and issued a warning against vandalism, claiming that such actions endanger people's lives.

According to CP Tijani Fatai, the Commissioner of Police, the command has zero tolerance for the destruction of public property throughout the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and any form of damage to public infrastructure,” the statement read.
