A failed kidnapping attempt in the Old Kara neighborhood of Bodija in the Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State resulted in at least one fatality and two gunshot wounds.

Dasola, who apparently perished during the assault, was recognized as the deceased.

Only a few days had passed since a similar attack in Onigambari village in Oluyole Local Government Area along the Ijebu-Ode axis.

The attack occurred on April 21, 2026, at approximately 7:50 p.m., according to Police Public Relations Officer Ayanlade Olayinka, who confirmed the development.

He claimed that what was thought to be a planned kidnapping by the terrorists was stopped by the swift action of security personnel, assisted by local hunters.

He claims that a neighbor reported to the authorities that around four armed guys had assaulted a nearby Point of Sale (POS) store and started shooting.

“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives immediately mobilised to the scene. 

“The prompt intervention of our men, in collaboration with local hunters, foiled the attack and disrupted the criminals’ operation,” Ayanlade stated.

Two people were shot during the exchange, but they were swiftly saved and taken to a hospital, where they are reportedly receiving treatment.

The police spokeswoman also mentioned that security forces have stepped up bush-combing activities throughout the area in an attempt to capture the escaping criminals.

In order to strengthen security and discourage additional criminal activity, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police ordered the deployment of additional troops to sensitive regions following the attacks.

The Command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting people and property and reassured locals that efforts are being made to identify and bring those responsible to justice.

As authorities step up efforts to stop abduction and other violent crimes throughout the state, residents have been asked to stay watchful and report unusual activity as soon as possible.
