Six kidnap suspects in the state have reportedly been neutralized, according to the Delta Police Command.  During a news briefing in Warri on Tuesday, SP Bright Edafe, the Command's spokesperson, stated as much.  

Edafe claimed that when agents searched the suspects' hiding place on the Ughelli-Patani Expressway on Wednesday, they were neutralized.  

He claimed that when they attacked their hideout, which was on the freeway close to the Unenurhei Community, the Commissioner of Police's Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) was carrying out a sting operation.

He said: “On July 9, the CP-SAT, while on a sting operation, raided the suspects’ hideout near Unenurhei axis, on the Ughelli-Patani Expressway.

The heavily armed individuals attacked the police force in a heated gunfight during the operation.

“In the process, the suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries.

“They were taken to hospital, where six of them were confirmed dead, while two others are still receiving treatment.”

19 rounds of live ammunition and four locally manufactured firearms, he said.
