Police nabs suspected kidnapper during attempt to withdraw N1m ransom
Godspower Cletus, a suspected kidnapper, was apprehended by Ondo State police officers when he was trying to take N1 million in ransom from his victim's spouse.
According to Vanguard, the suspect broke into Mrs. Farimoyo Endurance's home in the Odudu community in Akure and allegedly stole her Android phone and ATM card while brandishing a revolver.
According to a police source, the suspect intimidated the woman during the event and forced her to call her husband, who then demanded a N5 million ransom. The husband moved N1 million to the victim's Opay account, according to the police source.
“Upon confirming receipt of the payment, the suspect fled the scene, believing he had successfully carried out his criminal plan,” police said.
The suspect was located by the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad detectives. Speaking about the arrest, state police spokeswoman Ayanlade Olayinka stated that the suspect was apprehended at a point of sale (POS) while trying to withdraw the ransom money as a result of police investigators' efforts.
Ayanlade said: “Upon interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing to determine if he has accomplices or links to similar criminal activities within the state.”
He commended “the swift and professional response of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.”
