Police rescue kidnapped children, nabs four suspects in Oyo
With the rescue of two kidnapped children, the arrest of four suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of a cache of sophisticated weaponry connected to an armed robbery organization, the Oyo State Police Command has made significant progress in its continuing campaign against violent crime.
The Amotekun Corps, local vigilante groups, hunters, and other security partners throughout the state collaborated on intelligence-led operations that resulted to the achievements, according to the command.
On behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, made the announcement.
The rescue operation was initiated, according to the statement, after the command received a distress call on Friday, June 27, stating that armed thugs had broken into Ebinpejo Village, via Lanlate, in Ibarapa East Local Government Area, where they attacked locals, looted homes, and kidnapped two children.
Based on reliable information and technical assistance, the joint security team located the kidnappers' hideout deep within a forest, where they apprehended the suspects one by one.
According to the command, all four suspects are in jail and are helping detectives find additional members of the criminal network by providing valuable information.
The kidnapping in Oriire Local Government Area is part of a recent increase in kidnapping cases in Oyo State.
45 students and instructors were kidnapped on May 15 when gunmen broke into Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area.
