Police rescue ten after gunmen abduct corps members in Imo

Ten victims who had been kidnaped by gunmen along the Owerri-Onitsha Road were rescued thanks to a quick operation, according to the Imo State Police Command on Thursday.

Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer, made this claim in a statement.

"The victims who were saved are being cared for and are in good hands. The Command stated, "The precise number of people kidnaped is being verified and will be made public once confirmed."

In response to the kidnapping of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and other passengers, it claimed to have deployed tactical teams and operational assets in a coordinated search and rescue operation.

According to the Command, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, around 6:30 a.m., two busses carrying corps members and other passengers were attacked by allegedly armed men close to Umunoha.

This comes after 20 corps members were allegedly kidnaped while traveling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to NYSC orientation camps in the Southeast and South-South.

Gunmen allegedly stopped the victims while they were riding in a commercial bus.

In order to find the suspected kidnappers and secure the release of the remaining victims, the Command stated that its tactical teams were carrying out coordinated search-and-rescue operations with the assistance of intelligence-led tracking.
