Professor Simon Ortuanya becomes 16th vice-chancellor of UNN

A renowned legal scholar named Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya has been appointed as the 16th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) by the university's management.  

Following an open and merit-based screening process led by Council Chairman Engr. Kayode Ojo, his appointment was approved by the University's Governing Council on Sunday.  

In a statement provided to reporters in Enugu, Inya Agha Egwu, the university's acting public relations officer, revealed the news.  

The announcement claims that Professor Ortuanya has a breadth of administrative, academic, and public service expertise to the position.

He is currently a professor of law at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) and was previously the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.  

In addition, he is a visiting scholar at the Chicago School of Law at Loyola University.  Professor Ortuanya has served in important positions outside of academia, such as Commissioner for Education in Enugu State and Secretary to the Enugu State Government.

The statement noted: “His deep understanding of university governance, policy, and law, as well as his extensive leadership experience, will significantly advance the mission and vision of Nigeria’s premier university over the next five years.”

The university community congratulated Professor Ortuanya and conveyed hope that his tenure would usher in a new age of academic excellence and transformative leadership.
