Rivers cult clash leaves two dead, one injured
A fight between rival gangs in the Ngo and Unyengala communities in the Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday morning resulted in the shooting deaths of at least two people.
According to sources, the fight involved alleged members of the Iceland cult and the infamous militant group Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta.
According to the reports, the conflict, which started on Sunday, continued on Monday as a struggle for dominance and control over territory.
“It started on Sunday evening when I heard shooting in Ngo and Unyengala, and people were running to save their heads.
“They said it was Iceland and MEND. Many of us ran away, but it was later that we found out that two people were shot dead,” one of the sources who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue said.
On Monday afternoon, our reporter was contacted by Grace Iringe-Koko, the State Police Command spokesperson, who confirmed the occurrence. According to Iringe-Koko, the investigation is still underway.
“Yes, I can confirm the incident. Two people were killed, and another person was critically injured. It is linked to a supremacy battle between two rival cult groups in the area.
“Security has been beefed up, and calm has returned to the area. Investigation is ongoing to ensure the culprits are identified and apprehended,” the state police image maker stated.
