Col. Abdussalam A. Ude, a senior military commander, was killed by gunmen on Monday night during a suspected kidnapping attempt at his home in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

At first, there were claims that the attack happened in Abuja, but it really happened in the border village that borders the Federal Capital Territory.

According to reports, the attackers broke into the officer's home during a downpour and tried to kidnap him, but he resisted and was shot many times.

The event was confirmed on Tuesday by a local journalist and a community leader.

“They came during the rain. They wanted to kidnap him, but he resisted. He was shot multiple times,” one of the sources said.

According to the source, the victim's body was taken to a morgue on Tuesday when the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kurudu inspected the spot.

“The DPO of Kurudu was there earlier today. He took the corpse to a morgue,” the source added.

SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, stated that the incident did not take place under the command's authority when called earlier.

“This didn’t happen under our jurisdiction. It happened in Nasarawa. Contact the Nasarawa command,” she said.

Additionally, SP Ramhan Nansel, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, stated that he was unaware of the occurrence at the time.

The FCT Police Command did, however, clarify in a statement released later on Tuesday that the attack took place outside of the Federal Capital Territory in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

According to the command, as soon as news of the occurrence appeared online, Ahmed Sanusi, the Commissioner of Police, initiated an investigation.

“Investigations revealed that the incident occurred in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and not within the jurisdiction of the FCT Police Command as falsely portrayed in the circulating publications,” the statement read.

The command voiced concern about what it called "false reports" linking the incident to Abuja, claiming that these allegations unduly alarmed locals.
