Seven people were confirmed dead in a multiple-vehicle collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway's Ibafo section on Monday, while two more were injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps' (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command.

Afolabi Odunsin, the state sector's Chief Superintendent Route Commander, confirmed the occurrence in a statement released in the state capital of Abeokuta.

He claims that a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter were all involved in the collision.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps Ogun State Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal multiple road traffic crash that occurred at about 0003hrs on Monday, 24 August 2026, along the Ibafo–Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo. Preliminary information indicates that nine persons, all male, were involved in the crash. Sadly, seven persons were killed, while two persons sustained injuries.”

According to Odunsin, the FRSC Ibafo Outpost Command responded in about five minutes, arriving at the location at 4:09 a.m. after receiving the report at 4:04 a.m.

“The crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation (SPV) identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.”

He continued by saying that the Ogun State Ambulance Service removed the deceased victims from the area and transported the injured victims to receive medical care.

The Nigeria Police Force's Motor Traffic Division in Ibafo received the wrecked cars so they could take the appropriate next action.

Oludare Ogunjobi, the Sector Commander, advised drivers, especially those operating articulated vehicles, to stay alert at all times, avoid driving too fast, and maintain safe following distances.
