Sheikh Dasuki appointed chief Imam of Ilorin

Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani has been named the new Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate by Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Emir.

This came after a number of Islamic experts participated in the selecting process.

The appointment was made just five months after Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu, better known as Bashir Fulani, the immediate past Chief Imam of Ilorin, passed away on January 19, 2026, at the age of 75.

After funeral prayers at the Emir's Palace in Ilorin, the dead, who held the religious position for more than 40 years, was buried on January 20, 2026.

Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki was declared the winner after a tough screening process, according to a statement released on Wednesday night by Dr. Abdulraheem Muritala, the Emir's personal assistant.

The next Chief Imam, who is 42 years old, comes from a family with a strong religious heritage in Ilorin.

He is a close relative of Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka, the 10th Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin, and the grandson of Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, the 8th Chief Imam Fulani.

Sheikh Dasuki founded and owned Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies at Egbejila, Ilorin, prior to his appointment.

Additionally, he delivered daily prayers and Jumu'ah services as the Imam of Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque in Oko Olowo.
