Six people rescued from collapsed three-storey complex in Lagos
In the Alakija neighborhood of Amuwo-Odofin LGA in Lagos, a three-story structure fell, but six persons were saved.
In a statement released by X on Thursday, Lagos Commissioner of Information Gbenga Omotosho gave the update.
“Building collapse at Alakija. A three-storey commercial building has collapsed at Alakija Bus Stop, Satellite Town. Six people have been rescued from the rubble,” the commissioner said.
“The search is on for others. Emergency workers are at the site.”
On Thursday morning, the commercial building—which is home to several small business shops—collapsed.
Emergency personnel have started a rescue operation at the area, however victims are currently trapped beneath the debris.
In order to rescue people, emergency personnel are currently utilizing an excavator to pack out the debris.
However, ten people with varied degrees of injury were retrieved alive, according to a statement from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
“As of the time of this report, 10 persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment,” the statement reads.
“Search and rescue operations remain ongoing as emergency responders continue efforts to locate, extricate, and evacuate any persons who may still be trapped beneath the debris.”
