Six principles suspended over alleged misconduct in Sokoto
Six school principals have been suspended by the Sokoto State Government due to claims of insubordination and unauthorized fee collecting about the Junior Secondary School (JSS) test results.
Ibrahim Iya, the ministry's public relations officer, made the announcement on behalf of Ahmad Ala, the commissioner for basic and secondary education.
“No principal or school administrator will be allowed to act outside the law or exploit students and parents,” Ala stated.
“Our schools must be governed by accountability, not personal interests,” the professor added.
Additionally, the commissioner stated that the government would not think twice about punishing any official who was proven to be deficient.
Giginya Memorial College, Mana Basic Secondary School, Nana Girls Secondary School, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gagi, GDSS, Mana, and GDSS, Silame are the principals who are impacted.
The statement said that Silame, the principal of GDSS, had been explicitly sanctioned for insubordination. A five-person inquiry group led by professor Mustapha Tukur was established by the commissioner to look into the claims.
The Director of Planning at the Teachers Service Board, the Director of Quality Assurance at MOBSE, the Executive Secretary of AIEB, and the Director of Quality Assurance at AIEB—who will also act as the committee secretary—are among the other members.
With immediate effect, the suspended principals are required to transfer all administrative duties to their respective vice principals in charge of administration. Additionally, the ministry restated its dedication to responsibility, openness, and discipline in all of the state's public schools.
