Suspected confraternity leader killed in Lagos

Adedipe Adeyinkan, also known as Yinka Agali, was a suspected head of the Buccaneers fraternity in Surulere, Lagos.

The event took place on Saturday night, April 11, 2026, in Surulere's Iponri neighborhood. The deceased was allegedly considered a powerful member of the organization.

Agali was reportedly ambushed while traveling along the Iponri axis. Some reports link the murder to ongoing rivalry amongst cult organizations, while others raise the potential of political motivations, particularly in the run-up to local elections.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the development, stating that at approximately 11:30 p.m., it received a complaint of gunfire near the National Stadium Bridge in the direction of Iponri.

Officers found the man with several gunshot wounds inside an unregistered white Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 when a patrol squad from the Surulere Division arrived on the site.

The man was taken to Mainland General Hospital in Yaba, where he was pronounced dead, according to police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi. After that, his remains were placed in a mortuary for an autopsy.

She further revealed that the perpetrators fled in a different car after abandoning an unregistered black Ford Edge at the spot. Since then, both cars have been found, and efforts are still being made to find and capture the perpetrators.
