Eleven people were killed when suspected Boko Haram militants invaded Zaranga village in Adamawa State's Gombi Local Government Area on Monday.

According to reports, the terrorists entered the neighbourhood when people were still asleep, opened fire, and set houses on fire.

A number of locals are said to have fled into surrounding bushes and forests for safety as a result of the shocking incident.

A community member who spoke to reporters under the condition of anonymity claimed that early on Monday morning, Boko Haram attacked the area, shooting and setting buildings on fire.

“For now, 11 dead bodies have been recovered. Many people are still missing. Search teams and security personnel are in the forest searching for the missing people,” he said.

His wife and two other family members were among the deceased bodies found, according to another local.

“My wife and two of my family members were also killed during the early morning invasion of my village,” he said.

Concerns about the security situation in some regions of Adamawa, particularly in communities where terrorist organisations have continued to operate, have been heightened by the incident.
