Terrorists attack Borno community, kill woman, four soldiers
Four soldiers and a lady were slain in an attack on the Mussa hamlet in Borno State's Askira/Uba Local Government Area by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
Residents were forced to evacuate as gunfire reverberated across the region during the alleged 30-minute attack, which started at midday on Wednesday.
Mada Saidu, the chairman of Askira/Uba LGA, confirmed the event on Thursday, claiming that the assault claimed the lives of a civilian and military personnel.
“There was an attack at Mussa ward yesterday afternoon. They killed one civilian, a lady, and four soldiers,” he said.
According to military authorities, the fallen soldiers were part of the 115 Task Force Battalion, which was working to fend off the assailants and stop them from penetrating the neighborhood.
The sources claim that the army successfully prevented the insurgents from entering the town despite their concerted onslaught.
“Four of our men were killed while ensuring the terrorists did not gain entrance into the town. The attackers were not many, but it was a coordinated attempt to break through,” a source said.
Many of the locals fled their homes for safety after hearing heavy gunshots, according to the residents.
