Three arrested in Ghana for trafficking stolen cars from Nigeria
Three suspects have been taken into custody by Nigeria Police Force agents in Ghana in connection with the theft and trafficking of automobiles that were taken from Nigeria.
International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) agents apprehended the suspects in Accra after working with their Ghanaian counterparts and INTERPOL's National Central Bureau in Abuja.
This was revealed in a statement released on Sunday by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer on X (Twitter).
He claims that a 2020 Toyota Prado that belonged to a Federal Government organisation and was taken during an Abuja heist was found among the accused and has since been sent back to Nigeria.
“The three suspects arrested in Ghana have been charged to court in Accra. The vehicle was successfully returned to Nigeria and formally handed over to the concerned agency,” the statement partly reads.
Following thorough investigations and cooperation with INTERPOL NCB Niamey, he said, INTERPOL NCB Abuja agents also recovered a 2018 Toyota Hilux that had been stolen from a Federal Government employee in the Utako District of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on October 18, 2024.
The Hilux was traced to Agadez, Niger Republic, and recovered at the Nigeria-Niger border before being turned over to the agency's representative.
