Three officers killed, seven missing in another Benue attack
Three officers were killed and seven others went missing in a deadly ambush on the Nigeria Police Force's tactical teams in Benue State on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Egbe, a town in the Yagba West Local Government Area close to the Kwara State border.
William Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police, confirmed the loss of three officers from the command on Sunday. Meanwhile, CP Miller Dantawaye, the state's commissioner of police, said that a tactical response team had been sent to the area.
The police announced in a statement issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, on Sunday that "suspected armed herdsmen and local militias" carried out the attack at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Six people have been taken into custody as part of an ongoing response operation, according to the police spokeswoman, who also stated that they are "assisting with useful information."
“The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects in an ongoing response operation in Benue State, following a deadly attack on Police Tactical Teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
“The attack, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, resulted in the death of three police officers, while seven others are still missing.
“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is currently leading the operation geared towards rescuing the missing officers and arresting the fleeing suspects,” the statement read.
He ordered the deployment of more tactical assets to the problematic area, saying that “no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State.”
