Tinubu approves N16.7 billion for Mokwa bridge reconstruction

N16.7 billion has been approved by President Bola Tinubu to immediately rebuild the Mokwa Bridge in Niger State, which was devastated by flooding in May of this year.

Following a meeting with his Works counterpart, Dr. Dave Umahi, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, made the announcement yesterday in Abakaliki.

The approval, according to Idris, who is leading a Federal Government delegation on a three-day tour of South-East projects and citizen engagements, demonstrated the administration's response to pressing infrastructure requirements.

“We want to thank Mr. President and we want to thank the Honourable Minister of Works. We jointly discussed this and approached Mr. President, who graciously approved it. It means a lot to the people. It’s N16.7 billion to reconstruct the bridge — a 10-span bridge,” he said.

The minister also praised Senator Umahi for his prompt action following the tragedy, which included sending specialists to evaluate the damage soon after the bridge swept away.
