In an effort to alleviate the ongoing teacher shortage in Federal Unity Colleges and raise educational standards, President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment process for 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association teachers into the Federal Civil Service.

This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday by Dr. Tunji Alausa's Special Advisor on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah.

The minister claims that verified PTA teachers—many of whom have worked at Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years—will be given priority, enabling them to join the mainstream public sector.

While acknowledging the achievements of thousands of PTA teachers who have maintained learning in federal schools over the years, Alausa hailed the approval as a substantial intervention by the Tinubu administration and one of the most important attempts to boost the teaching workforce.

“This is a president who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country.

“The president has approved the recruitment of teachers. Priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in our Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years. This approval provides them with the opportunity to become part of the mainstream public service,” the minister said.

According to him, the hiring process came after a thorough verification process carried out by an interministerial commission that selected qualified PTA instructors from Federal Unity Colleges.

The exercise, he said, verified “3,252 teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors, paving the way for their regularisation upon completion of all statutory requirements.”

According to Alausa, the recruitment would increase the teacher-to-student ratio in Federal Unity Colleges and honor educators who had persevered through years of uncertainty. She described the development as a milestone under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
