Troops seizes 296 bundles of suspected cannabis in Ogun
Along the Abeokuta–Igboora Road in Ogun State, soldiers from the Nigerian Army's 35 Artillery Brigade have seized 296 sizable bundles of suspected cannabis sativa. Information regarding a planned shipment of illegal substances in the vicinity led to the seizure.
In a statement provided to reporters in the state capital of Abeokuta, Lieutenant Samuel Akari, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 35 Artillery Brigade, revealed this.
According to Akari, troops responded to the tip by stopping an unregistered motorcycle that was transporting the alleged drugs, which were hidden in three sizable bags.
“Acting swiftly at about 4:30 a.m. on March 1, 2026, the troops moved to the location where they stopped an unregistered motorcycle conveying the substances concealed in three large sacks.
“On sighting the troops, the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush under the cover of darkness,” he said.
He further stated that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State Command, has received the discovered materials for additional investigation and appropriate action.
Additionally, Akari reaffirmed the brigade's will to make the state uncomfortable for drug traffickers and other criminals, cautioning them to abstain from illicit activity or face the repercussions.
He reassured the populace of the army's commitment to protecting people and property and stopping criminal activity in the state.
