Maj. Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife, the Nigerian Army's General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division and Commander of Sector 3, mission FANSAN YAMA, has successfully led troops in a rescue mission in Kwara State.
This was revealed in a statement released on Saturday by Lt. Col. Polycarp Okoye, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division.
According to Okoye, the GOC led troops into Babasango Forest on Thursday on an operational visit to Patrol Base Babanla, where they freed two abducted people.
The victims were eventually turned over to Oba Pius Oluwole Onidofin of Idofin Odoeshe Ayekale, the traditional ruler of Ayekale, he continued.
He claimed that the visit came after three traders were killed in Olegbede village during a bandit attack close to Idofin in the Omu-Aran Local Government Area.
“Oba Oluwole attributed the attacks to the community’s proximity to Babasango Forest and appealed for sustained military presence.
In addition to expressing sympathy for the royal father, Maj. Gen. Nnebeife promised that the Nigerian Army will continue its operations to rid the forest of bandits and other criminal elements.
