Truck crashes into vehicles, injures three in Lagos

A MACK flatbed truck reportedly experienced brake failure and collided with many cars along the LASU–Isheri Road near Iyana School, in Igando, Lagos, on Tuesday, seriously injuring three people.

According to a statement released by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck lost control due to a brake failure and collided with a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles, causing a significant multi-vehicle collision.

He claims that LASTMA personnel on regular traffic patrol reacted right away by initiating the agency's emergency response process, rescuing victims who were trapped, averting secondary collisions, and controlling traffic near the scene of the accident.

He revealed that two female and one male occupant suffered from severe fractures of varied degrees.

“They were rescued from the wreckage through the coordinated efforts of LASTMA officials and other emergency responders before being taken to El-Shaddai Hospital for specialised medical treatment,” he added.

Taofiq went on to say that in order to quickly restore regular traffic flow along the busy highway, LASTMA authorities collaborated closely with Iba Police Division officers to evacuate the damaged vehicles and clear the accident area.

“The vehicles involved in the crash were identified as a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota vehicle with registration number FGC 80 XE, and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP,” he said.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki praised the agency's staff for their professionalism and quick response. He also advised drivers, especially those who operate heavy-duty and articulated vehicles, to perform thorough mechanical inspections prior to traveling, paying particular attention to the state of their braking systems.
