Two soldiers, two security operatives killed in Borno ambush

Four security agents were killed when Boko Haram militants assaulted soldiers of the 25 Task Force Brigade on Friday night when they were on a regular patrol near Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.  

In a statement issued on Saturday, Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the event and stated that the soldiers were ambushed on their way back from a successful patrol in the Sambisa Forest's periphery.

She said: “The patrol team, which was led by the Commander, 25 Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, and comprised troops of 25 Task Force Brigade and members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), courageously fought through the insurgents’ ambush with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray and to abandon their mission.”

She noted: “During the encounter, two brave soldiers and two heroic CJTF members paid the supreme price while on active service to the nation.”

She stated that the Army high command expressed sympathy to the families and friends of the fallen heroes for their valiant commitment to the country while praising the soldiers for their bravery.

“The Army Headquarters also wishes to debunk the fake narrative going round some media platforms online alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander.”
