Two suspects arrested for motorcycle, illegal drug dealing in Kano

In the state's Kumbotso Local Government Area, agents of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, have detained a suspected motorcycle thief and illicit drug dealer.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the command's public relations officer, confirmed the suspects' arrests.

“Operatives of the NSCDC Kano State Command, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two suspects, a suspected motorcycle thief at Sabuwar Jiddah, Yan Kusa, and a suspected illegal drug dealer at Sabon Titin Dorayi, all in the Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State,” he said.

He claims that Usman Abdulhamid, a 19-year-old inhabitant of Yandanko, Panshekara, who was suspected of stealing a motorcycle from a gullible member of the public in the Sabuwar Jiddah region, was apprehended soon after.

He claimed that during questioning, the suspect admitted to being a member of a gang that specialized in motorbike theft and snatching throughout the city of Kano.

He continued by saying that four motorcycles—three Jincheng and one Lifan Kumata—were recovered from the suspect during the operation, and that attempts are underway to apprehend the other two accomplices who are still at large.

According to him, Salisu Abdullahi, a 28-year-old drug dealer from Semegu, Kumbotso Local Government Area, was apprehended at Sabon Titin Dorayi with a variety of psychotropic chemicals that were allegedly marketed for illicit use.

He said that 100 pieces of Paxol 5 mg tablets, 30 pieces of Pregabalin 300 mg, 170 pieces of Diazepam 10 mg, and one tablet of male sex enhancer were among the exhibits found on him.

“These arrests are part of the corps’ broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks involved in theft, vandalism, and other crimes that threaten public safety,” the statement said.

According to Abdullahi, the suspects are now being investigated and will face charges in court once the inquiry is finished.
