UI confirms abduction of 300-level law student

The University of Ibadan (UI) Students' Union Government (SUG) has verified the kidnapping of a 300-level female law student known only as Tomisin. As attempts to ensure her safe return have stepped up, the SUG has urged for calm.

According to an official statement released by the union's president, Comrade Temidayo Adeboye, Tomisin went on a religious retreat with eight other participants, including Engr. Uwem Cosmos, National General Director of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship.

In addition to being the Vice-President of the Scripture Union chapter at the University of Ibadan, Tomisin is the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship in Nigeria.

The union clarified that Tomisin is the sole University of Ibadan student who is now unaccounted for, vehemently rejecting rumors that eight students were gone.

Adeboye claims that in order to enable appropriate involvement, the union has already made contact with pertinent religious organizations and security agencies and "initiated the necessary engagements to ascertain the facts surrounding the situation."

According to reports, communication with Tomisin was lost while she was returning from the Scripture Union National Conference, which was held at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State.

Her failure to appear for her faculty exams on Monday and Tuesday raised questions about her location.

According to additional reports, a second University of Ibadan student from the Department of Music who attended the conference made it back without incident. But the car carrying the General Director was still missing.

Dr. Ademola Lewis, the dean of student affairs, confirmed the development and said the university was aware of the incident even though it had not been told about the trip in advance.

He advised university community members to maintain composure and avoid spreading unconfirmed information that would exacerbate the issue, adding that efforts were already in place to guarantee the student's safe return.
